How much does it cost to get my windows cleaned?

Cleaning your windows is a job that should optimally be done twice a year.

However, depending on the size of your home cleaning all of your windows can end up becoming quite the production. While it's possible to do it yourself, buying the right supplies can end up costing you just as much as hiring a pro. Reputable window cleaners will always have the proper ladders, cleaning solutions, and most importantly, the right sized squeegees that will make your windows spotless.  Also, keep in mind that doing a good job on your windows requires

standing on a ladder while using multiple tools to clean the pane of glass. This can be a

dangerous prospect for some homeowners and worthy of calling a pro.

So, what does it actually cost to hire a pro?

Here are some of the guidelines to consider when getting a quote:

  1. Are you needing exterior only or do you want interior and exterior windows cleaned?

  2. Do you expect to get the screens cleaned as well or just the windows?

  3. Are you expecting to get the frames and sills wiped clean or just the glass?

  4. Do you have hard water stains on any of your windows that may require additional cleaning?

  5. Is the company fully insured so you can be confident that you hold no liability?

  6. Does the company use their own employees or do they subcontract the work out?

After you have taken these things into consideration you should know that most window cleaning companies charge by the pane of glass. The range is usually somewhere between

$2.75 and $7 each with $3.70 being the overall average.

If you are wanting sills or screens cleaned you can expect to pay an additional

$3.00 and $7 per screen as well as $.50 to $3 per sill.

On the other hand, many companies charge by the square foot of the house. There will either be a full service quote that includes screens and sills or you will pay additionally as listed above.

These companies lump the sizes of houses into categories based on data collected over time.

The third and easiest, but least prevalent way is the simple by the hour method. You can expect to pay between $70 and $95 an hour for professional window cleaning services.

After doing research on all three of these methods what I have found is that all 3 are consistent at the end of the project with the hourly wage. Companies know how many window panes per hour a technician can do.  As well as the average number of windows per square foot that are in a home. Both of these methods come out to $70 - $95 a man hour for the service.

With this being said, please keep in mind that a professional window cleaner can clean all windows inside and out including screens and wiping of sills in about a quarter of the time the average homeowner can. An average 2500’ home will take a professional window cleaner between 2.5 – 4 hours to complete, putting the bill between $175 and $400. According to the national surveys completed, the average window cleaning cost across the country is $296.
